Our School
MHS Circa 1964
Montgomery High School, the second high school in Santa Rosa City Schools, opened its doors in 1958. It is now one of five comprehensive high schools which were not even dreamed of in 1958. It was built in a series of parallel wings bounded on the west by the library and administrative offices and the east by athletic fields. As our population and specialized programs grew, bungalows were added, along with air conditioning for most classrooms. The administrative offices and the library have also been renovated and the exteriors are now less angular and have an attractive brick-facade. The latest projects are a new physics lab, a Special Education classroom, and revamped art/drama classroom. The school’s colors are gray and scarlet; the mascot is the Viking. The school lies just south of Montgomery Village, a somewhat unique shopping area, decidedly pre-mall in structure; both the shopping area and the school are named after Billy Montgomery, who was the first Santa Rosan to die in World War II.
